Jan Mayen 25.06-6.07 2008 JX/SQ4MP & JX/G7VJR
- transceiver Elecraft K2/100 and YAESU FT-857D - two 10m verticales for 40M, 30M, 20M, 17M, 15M, 12M bands and yagi
for 6M band - 18m vertical for 40M, 30M bands - power amplifier 500W. - definitaly we will focus on 30M, 20, 17M bands. Because of propagation we not expect to be active on 160M, 80M band. We will do our best to get any propagation on 15M, 12M, 10M bands. - Michael will be active mostly on CW and I will work on CW/SSB and a bit of RTTY.
How it began: Organasing a DXpedition to the places which are attractive for a ham radio operators is always a long proccess of getting necessary documents and informations. Big TNX to Per-Einar Dahlen LA7DFA, who provide lots of ideas and advise on how to prepare for a meeting with the Island. Getting to Jan Mayen is not so simple because there is no permanenet comunication betwen Island and "rest of the world". One of the chances turn out to be the adventure company EcoExpeditions who organise trips to remote part of the world. In 2008 through a part of this company a group of mountain climbers are going to Jan Mayen to reach the top of the Beerenberg volcano 2277m. Leader of the expedition Geir Ulstein very kindly put me on the list of passangers and in the middle of December 2007 I was included in the trip to Jan Mayen. After a few weeks I found out that one of the passangers of the expedition has the same plan like me - go to the Island and put radio on. It turned out to be Michael G7VJR. We were very happy that we could join the expedition and we started organising our adventure. We expect to be active from Jan Mayen for approximately 6,5 days.We will work non stop in 4 hours shifts on one station. We set our tent next to the sea to make our small antennas more like DX antennas:). After returning home log on-line will be updated http://www.jx08.eu we add some ststistics as well.
